Slidell Photography Club News for GSCCC
The club changed meetings dates and sites to First United Methodist Churchin order to better accommodate membership. The meeting room located inOlde Town Slidell and meeting date is now the third Wednesday of the month.In late October, members enjoyed a field trip to the backyard birdsanctuary of club member Noel Peyton to enjoy the flowers, hummingbirds, butterfliesand a few extra critters. Participants were Mr. and Mrs. David Smith,Mr. and Mrs. Pat Anderson, Camella Dimitri, David Schmit, Joel Treadwell,Trentis White and Suzanne Vicknair.The 9th Annual John Geiser competition for Photography Excellence was heldat the November club meeting. The award is a most cherished award amongclub members, as the winner is decided as result of voting by fellow clubmembers. The competition was begun by Paul Muehlmann, in 1999, inremembrance of his uncle, John Geiser who was a long time member of theSlidell Photography Club. Mr. Geiser traveled extensively and lovedflowers especially camellias. He had traveled to all 50 states and more than 65foreign countries. As a tribute to his life passion, the themes for thecompetition alternate between flowers and travel. The theme of thecompetition for this year was travel.This year's award winning image was "The Tea Garden" submitted by NoelPeyton.
There was a two-way tie for second place, which the club optednot to break. Those receiving second place recognition were Clay Isbell with"Show Me the Way" and Andree' Maduell with "October in the Smokies".
Honorable Mentions were awarded to Debbie Clark for "Solitude", JoelTreadwell for "Where Do I Go?", Pete Clark for "Urban Passage", DavidSchmitt for "Out of the Fog" Camella Dimitri for "Shadow Ladies".
The winning images from the John Geiser competition will be on exhibit in themain display case in The St. Tammany Parish Public Library, Slidell Branchlocated on Robert Boulevard, throughout the month of December.
