Herb Babington - February 2002
The Slidell Photography Club has chosen Herb Babington as its Photographer of the Month.
His work entitled "Golden Beauties" will be displayed in the Slidell Library,
533 Robert Boulevard, throughout March.
Babington is a retired NASA engineer, having degrees from the U. S. Naval Academy, and
Tulane University. He became interested in photography while in the Navy, but that interest
intensified upon the birth of his children and later his grandchildren.
A charter member of the Slidell Photography Club, Herb remembers attending the first organizational
meeting at a local Chinese restaurant in 1981. From that beginning, the club has continued
to be active in improving the skills of its members, and conducting photography competitions
and exhibitions.
Babington currently uses a Nikon 6006 for prints, and a Pentax Super Program for slides.
His works has won awards in both the Gulf States Camera Club Council and the Slidell
Photography Club's annual Juried Exhibition. He has recently acquired a digital camera,
which he says he is learning how to use.
