Mike Sullivan - December 2002
Smoky Mountain Cascade by Mike Sullivan:
I came upon this stream while hiking out from a photo shoot of a waterfall in the Smoky
Mountains, about 1993. The green canopy overhead made low light reading. I captured this
scene with a Pentax K1000 35mm camera mounted with a 135mm Takumar 2.8 lens with polarizing
filter and stabilized on a Velbon tripod. A cable release was also utilized to permit
an undisturbed time exposure. I made multiple exposures at various settings. The film
was Fujichrome Velvia, ISO 50. Everyone that’s seen this image asks, “How
can I get there?” I can only reply that it was off trail and I’ve been to
so many places in the Smokies, that I probably couldn’t get back to this one if
I had to.
